CUSA provides comprehensive design, engineering and construction expertise for renewable energy projects.

CUSA offers businesses, developers, land owners and residential owners a full array of design services and a direct interface with electric utilities for the interconnect application. We also facilitate agreements for feasibility and system impact studies when required on behalf of the business or land owner.

CUSA can take an idea and bring it from conceptual design, through schematic design, through interconnect studies and interconnection design, permit design, to detailed design, as well as procurement, construction and commissioning. We also provide cost budgeting after each design stage is completed.

To maximize efficiency and seamless project management, CUSA provides in-house design and engineering:

  • Design and modeling are all conducted by CUSA electrical engineers

  • Overhead and underground electrical distribution engineering and design is done by CUSA engineers

  • All civil engineering work is done by CUSA’s licensed civil engineer

CUSA is proficient in HelioScope’s solar design and modeling software to ensure we meet our clients’ needs and the highest level of energy generation.

Our scope of work and expertise includes:

  • Equipment selection and specifications for the entire renewable energy system

  • Interconnection application process on behalf of the owner or developer

  • Development of all technical documents required for submittal to the electric utility for the interconnect application and study agreements

  • Modeling of the PV system and interconnect to the utility using ETAP (Electrical Transient Analysis Software)

  • Pole top design of customer-owned recloser, metering and protection when required by the application

  • Data Acquisition System (DAS) design, panel manufacture and installation by CUSA affiliates or by a customer-preferred supplier to provide required metering data to the utility and to the end user

  • Inverter settings and interconnection relay protection settings

  • Coordinate and provide acceptance testing of all electrical equipment and cables

  • Commissioning of the system to meet the end-user and electric utility requirements

  • Battery Energy Storage System functional and operational requirements specifications and design to provide power loss ride-through and peak load supply as required

  • Experience in design application of IEEE 1547 Standard for Interconnection and Interoperability of Distributed Energy Resources with Associated Electric Power System Interfaces for distributed generation including PV, BESS, synchronous generators, induction generators and other inverter based distributed generation

  • Design in the use of off grid inverters and battery energy storage backup

  • Design of grid connected with back-up loads that rely on a battery pack and solar power to power your critical loads during a power outage

  • Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services. CUSA’s electricians have installed commercial PV systems
